The Magnetic Hill is essentially an optical illusion where a small downhill seems to be an uphill incline. The most significant variable leading to the delusion is a largely obstructed or totally horizon; as a dependable benchmark is lost with no horizon, judging the incline of a surface is not easy.
Ladakh is where the hill is located. The hill creates an impression in those who have been there and our heads of a mystical land would concur that it definitely lives up to the expectations. Centuries past Shah Jahan said that if there exists a heaven on earth it’s in Kashmir. To that I say that he would surely have altered his view or failed to see Ladakh. Or perhaps he contained Ladakh as nicely when he said the word “Kashmir” and did.
Out of the several enchanting areas in Ladakh, there's one that continues to achieve this and still has confused people for long. It's a little stretch of road known as Magnetic Hill of Ladakh and situated about 30 kms. If you let your vehicle stand in impersonal and turned the engine off, it can go as much as a rate of 20 kms per hour alone and will slowly begin going. Crazy??? Yeah it is...
What's considered to be behind this mysterious occurrence at work is a magnetic force so powerful that it can pull on automobiles uphill. Many people are unaware about Magnetic Hill and simply pass through here but understand stop their cars to check whether what they heard was accurate or simply a made up story.
